Auction rolls fully transcribed
In March 2024, the Cape Panel project reached a significant milestone with the completion of the MOOC 10 auction roll series. The MOOC10 series vested in the Western Cape Archives and Records Service, Roeland Street, Cape Town, consists of 47 volumes plus an Index. The transcription of these auction rolls, which first began in 2004, was undertaken by the Tracing History Trust. Says Helena Liebenberg, coordinator of the project: ‘This is one of the largest and richest Cape archival series available and will make a significant contribution to the preservation of research material and its analysis and study in order to expand the understanding of the eighteenth-century Cape society and its emerging economy.’
